Overview

Neighbor-Connect is about local information and collaboration. Really local.

Many sites will serve you information about what's going on in your metropolitan area or your city. But what is probably most important to you is within walking distance. That's why we organize and filter information by how close it is to you: truly hyper-local.

We do the same for people, and let you meet and collaborate with your neighbors&emdash;perhaps people who have lived behind you and three doors down for years but you haven't had the occasion to meet. Making such connections can prove not only good for you and for them, but also for your neighborhood and the planet.

For example, using this site can allow you to:

• Borrow or lend a carpet cleaner, lawnmower, or DVDs.
• Give away or trade fruit from your fruit tree instead of letting it go to waste.
• Discover a neighbor to carpool with, exercise together, trade child care, or share playdates.

Main Sections

The site has three main sections:

	Channels	Local information you can browse or have delivered to your news feed or email inbox.
		Channels vary by location... examples include: Police and firefighter logs Home and rental sales/listings Local blogs	And do more with it: View it plotted on a map around you Comment on it with other members Filter to view just what you want.

	Exchange	A local marketplace and lending library, supporting loans, giveaways, bartering, and sales.
		Easily share your requests and offers: Quickly search our product database to find and categorize items. Share with just your friends or the wider public. We track responses and help you respond. Display your Amazon.com wish list or seller listings.	And find just what you want without fuss: Find by targeted categories (e.g. vegetarian cookbooks or children's furniture). Browse by categories, offer types, and distance. Be notified of matches via your news feed or email inbox.

	Friends	Find, connect, and collaborate with your closest neighbors.
		Easily find your neighbors: View members based on their distance from you and approximate location. Upload your email contacts to find by email or be notified when a friend joins.	Then connect and collaborate: Offer some exchange items only to your friends. Much more to come...

Privacy

We take privacy very seriously, and let you decide what information you want to share. Members who you have identified as your friends will be able to see your full information, but you can decide what others will see.

You can choose to make public:

• Name: Full name, first name, or only your login name.
• Address: full address or anonymized to the block level (e.g. "1200 block of Park Street")
• Member photo: visible or hidden

We encourage members to make public as much information as they are comfortable with, as it will help others who know you to recognize you on the site so you can become friends.
